Metta Media Award for 2011
Connected
Metta media is geek terminology for information about information, such as time code for tape or key code for film.
Sometimes a film reveals the hidden code behind a story and uses that revelation to tell a deeper truth.
This year Connected is that film.
From acclaimed filmmaker Tiffany Shlain, who also created the Webby Awards, comes our latest documentary selection for the Metta Media Award, the acclaimed Sundance hit Connected.
We live in a world of technological advancements. A time when we can have instant access to the internet on our phones.
This film dares to ask, “Are these advancements helping us or hurting us?”
Shlain’s film explores how our dependency and fascination with social networking, e-mails and internet on our phones can affect important aspects of our daily lives such as work and relationships.
This is a testament to the cautions of social networking and technological advancements that provide easy distractions in our everyday lives.
Connected will screen Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at Angelika Film Center. Buy tickets here.
