Silence the Opera Singer
PSA Contest
for Angelika Film Center
If you have ever been to the fine independent cinema chain known as the Angelika Film Center, then it is more than likely that you have seen a particularly dry “no talking, no texting” PSA featuring an opera performance interrupted by one unruly patron’s cell phone. Let’s be honest, the word dry is being too kind in describing this PSA (pretty stupid announcement is more like it). It’s downright painful to watch, especially if you frequent the Angelika as we here at I Heart Cinema.net have been known to do. Everything from the dumb look on the face of that puppy dog-haired piano player to the dumb line delivery from the woman with the cell phone on “I’ll have to call you back.” In short, it’s dumb.
Which is why I Heart Cinema.net, the Dallas VideoFest, and the Angelika Film Center are giving you the chance “Silence the Opera Singer” once and for all by making your own “no talk, no text” PSA.
The winner will help us all say good riddance to the opera singer forever by having his or her PSA replace it, to play before every film at the Angelika! And we’re not just talking the Dallas and Plano locations here. All Angelika theaters, from Dallas to Houston to New York and California, will feature the winner’s work, making this a nation-wide competition.
But that’s not all folks! The winning filmmaker also will receive a year-round pass to the Angelika, good for any film on any day at any time. Hopefully you won’t get tired of seeing your own PSA because, you along with the thousands of other theatergoers, will see it every time you go to the Angelika, plus Dallas Audio Post will be happy to donate audio post production services to the winner!
Deadline to enter has passed. Come see the contestants Friday ,Sept 23rd 7 pm at the Angelika Theater 3.
